Ecological Agriculture:

A nascent but vital system of crop production techniques; safeguarding human health and environment; is anchoring its roots in HUJRA.
Say No, to Pesticides, Chemical Fertilizers and Yes, to the use of indigenous resources for crop production to attain sustainability, protect the environment and provide safety to human health:
Ecological approach is to minimize the adverse impacts on the environments, by avoiding the use of materials from non-renewable resources, recycling where possible, use minimum amount of pesticides, avoiding the use of resources which cause pollution, relying on crop rotation, using crop residue recycling animal manure, legumes, and green manure, biological pest control, minimum tilth to be used to maintain soil productivity, to minimize the energy costs of production and transportation materials, to keep soil more fertile. Organic methods improve soil health; increase population of healthy worms, fungi and other soil organisms. Organic agriculture saves the land from losses due to erosion and soil degradation, improves soil fertility and enhances moisture conservation. Diverse varieties only are used under unfavorable conditions.
HUJRA (Holistic Understanding for Justified Research and Action) got the opportunity to play a role in this emerging and demanding field, and develop a model of organic agriculture undertook a one year project; BASELINE STUDY TO PROMOTE ORGANIC AGRICULTURE AND DEVELOP A MODEL OF ORGANIC AGIRCUTURE FOR REPLICAITON TO THE OTHER REGIONS OF DISTICT SWAT.
The project is financed by IDRC (International Development for Research and Action) and administered by Lok Sanj Islamabad. The goals and objective of the project were to explore dynamics household expenditures on fertilizers and pesticides.

objectives :

To achieve its over all goal, the project objectives would include the following:
  • To explore dynamics household expenditures on fertilizers and pesticides.
  • To calculate the economics of different crops produced
  • To carry out soil analysis for organic and inorganic components.
  • To record and review trends in cropping patterns in different elevations and soil types.
  • To quantify availability of inorganic fertilizers for the existing crop land.
  • To devise a strategy for effective promotion of organic agriculture.
